Dua is not limited by language, formality, or memorization. While many beautiful supplications are found in the Qur'an and Sunnah, Allah invites believers to call upon Him openly and sincerely.
“Call upon your Lord humbly and privately.”
Surah Al-A'raf 7:55
This verse highlights that dua is meant to come from the heart, not just the tongue. A believer can speak to Allah in any language, expressing fears, hopes, gratitude, or confusion.
The Prophet ☯ taught that Allah is gentle and generous in responding to those who make dua. In an authentic hadith, he said that Allah feels shy to leave His servant empty-handed when they raise their hands in supplication. (Abu Dawood, Tirmidhi)
This shows that Allah values the act of asking itself. Whether the dua is spoken quietly after prayer or made internally, Allah hears it. There is no need for perfect wording, only honesty and sincerity.
When dua becomes a personal conversation, it brings comfort. It reminds the believer that Allah is aware of every struggle and that turning to Him is always welcomed.
